Fashion & Style News: Nicole Richie Steps into the Fashion Arena with a Contemporary Line

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Joining the ranks of celebrity designers, Nicole Richie is launching her first contemporary women's collection. The mother of two is already experiencing success with her accessories line House of Harlow and her maternity line Nicole for A Pea in a Pod.

The contemporary collection, Winter Kate (named for her daughter's two middle names) will hit stores as early as February 2010. The 37-piece collection will be sold in stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Saks, Neiman Marcus, Intermix, and Kitson.

Richie says she has wanted to design for a long time but admitted she put it off. Understandable since she just gave birth to her second child, son Sparrow. The collection is derived from Richie's own bohemian style wardrobe and will include tops, vests and bed jackets in crepe, silk and chiffon. The collection also includes slip dresses, tunics, and kimono sleeved maxi dresses. The slip dress will be made in both solids and prints and the vests and jackets are meant to be paired with other pieces or for layering.

Price wise the collection will be comparable to her accessories thus making it pretty moderate. "Fashion should be accessible," Richie says and she's kept that philosophy in mind.
