Beauty: Balenciaga to Re-enter Fragrance Market

Sunday, November 1, 2009

Balenciaga is returning to the fragrance world with their new scent, Balenciaga Paris. Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière was hands on with creating the scent and wanted it to redefine Balenciaga's presence in the fragrance arena.

The scent is an interesting blend of floor wax and flowers; violet and carnation, and more urban odors, like gasoline. Ghesquière wanted the fragrance to be contemporary with a twist. The scent is not your everyday floral mix, it is truly something unique and different.

The fragmented shaped bottle is reminiscent of Balenciaga's cocoon-shaped cape. the cap has a smooth cracked finish similar to Balenciaga’s vintage fabrics with abstract prints and vintage 18th-century vases. White and ivory, two popular Balenciaga colors give the bottle-neck some style of its own.

The U.S. and European markets will see the fragrance in February and Asia in march and February. Balenciaga has been absent from the fragrance market for 15 years so the new scent should be well received. U.S. retail prices have not been released.
